Who are we hiring?
The Senior Social Media Manager will be responsible for ideating, creating, and publishing of highly-engaging social media content. This position will lead daily posting on Rangers social channels with a focus on developing content that entertains and informs each channel’s audience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of hockey and how people consume social content, an eye for detail, and stay up-to-date on cultural and industry trends. This position reports to the Director of Content and will collaborate with the content team around team coverage, tentpole events, marketing partnerships, community programs, and more.
What will you do?
- Own the editorial calendar and lead day-to-day social publishing for the Rangers accounts
- Develop organic social media strategy in conjunction with the Director of Content
- Lead and manage a team of social creators and publishers
- Coordinate with PR, Hockey Ops, Marketing, Partnerships, and Creative Services to maintain a consistent social voice
- Oversee live coverage of Rangers games and other team events, ensuring consistency across each channel
- Curate, prioritize, and publish content that is consistent with team and brand messaging, with an eye to expand and engage the Rangers’ audience
- Take the lead in the development of social content and campaigns
- Build distribution plans for priority brand and marketing partnership content initiatives
- Work with Digital Analytics team to assess content performance and optimize approach
- Stay on top of social media trends and integrate new opportunities for the Rangers’ social presence
- Advise Marketing Partnerships to ensure sold content follows best practices in social media
What do you need to succeed?
- 5-8 years experience in social media, preferably at a hockey club
- Available to work Rangers games based on team schedule which occur nights/evening/weekends/holidays as needed by Director Content
- Deep understanding of current and emerging social media platforms and trends
- Strong visual eye with regard to the production and curation of social media content (photography, video, graphics)
- Strong written communication skills, including copywriting, proofreading and the ability to write copy specific to platforms
- Detail oriented and organized, with the ability to accomplish daily goals while planning ahead and managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience operating social media platforms for a brand or team
- Experience with social media measurement tools such as Sprout
- Experience in ClipPro, Adobe Creative Suite and project management tools like AirTable
- Knowledge of the NHL and the Rangers and hockey culture
- Versatile interpersonal skills and professionalism to work across multiple environments and departments, including interaction with players, executives and celebrities
- Detail oriented with a track record of managing multiple projects at once and delivering on time
- Ability to work autonomously, but also able to sync accordingly with full cross-department planning
- Travel as required for games, team practices and other team related events
