Chris Kreider Named NHL’s First Star of Week
NEW YORK, January 24, 2022 – The National Hockey League announced today that New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider has been named the NHL’s First Star of the Week for the week ending on January 23.
In the past week (Jan. 17-23), Kreider has registered five goals and two assists for seven points in three games. In that span, his goals rank tied for second in the NHL and his points are tied for the most in the league with three others, including teammate Mika Zibanejad.
On January 19 against Toronto, Kreider scored his 25th goal of the season in the Rangers’ win over the Maple Leafs.
On January 21 at Carolina, Kreider recorded two points (1G-1A) against the Hurricanes, including his 13th power play goal of the season.
On January 22 at home against Arizona, Kreider posted three goals and one assist for four points. In addition to his fifth career hat trick, he set his career-high in goals with 29 and tied Alex Ovechkin for the league-high in goals. His third goal came on the power play, his 14th of the season, surpassing Leon Draisaitl for the most in the NHL. In the win at Madison Square Garden, Kreider established his career-long goal streak of five-straight games (8G).
The Boxford, Massachusetts native has accumulated 29 goals and 13 assists for 42 points in 42 games this season for New York. He ranks first on the Rangers in goals and is tied for third in points. Next month, Kreider will head to Las Vegas to play in the 2022 NHL All-Star Game, the second of his career.
