Staff Accountant

Who are we hiring?
This position supports MSG Sports Accounting department in day-to-day operations, as well as monthly and quarterly accounting close for the Teams (Knicks, Rangers & Westchester Knicks) and Sports Corporate. Responsibilities also include accrual management, account analysis, journal entries, account reconciliations, and support for the Manager. This role will prepare detailed balance sheet and income statement account analyses, as well as, assist with preparation of audit requests as directed.
What will you do?
- Assist with completion of monthly closes for the Teams (Knicks, Rangers & Westchester Knicks) and Sports Corporate.
- Assist with Payroll, Benefit, and all other Employee Expense accounting.
- Provide timely and detailed monthly/quarterly Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss account analysis as assigned, including substantiation of account balances, and recommend adjusting journal entries, where needed. Most schedules are used for internal, external, and tax purposes.
- Review vendor invoices and expense reports for proper account coding and approval.
- Support accounting group day-to-day activities and complete special projects in an accurate and timely manner, as assigned.
- Recommend/improve company-wide utilization of financial systems and digital technologies to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of reporting.
- Assist with preparation of audit deliverables as directed.
What do you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance
- Proficient in Excel spreadsheet modeling along with all MS Office platforms (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Excel)
- Strong analytical skills
- Effective written and oral communications skills
- CPA a plus
- Experience in reviewing 10-K / 10-Q financial statements a plus
- Experience in building and/or utilizing data transformation tools a plus
